Pelham House Fire Ruled Accidental

No one was injured during a house fire that ignited at a home on Corona Avenue earlier today.

A fire that ignited inside a home on Corona Avenue in the Village of Pelham has been ruled accidental.

At about 1 a.m., a fire started in the front den of a home on 235 Corona Ave. The three people and the dog living inside the home had evacuated before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters needed about an hour to get the blaze under control. The den received heavy fire damage, while the rest of the home received heavy smoke and water damage.

The family was unable to return to the home this morning, according to Pelham fire Lt. Robert Benkwitt. Representatives from the American Red Cross of Greater New York said their services weren’t requested this morning.

Although the exact cause of the fire is unknown, fire investigators believe it was accidental, according to Benkwitt.

Firefighters from Pelham Manor and New Rochelle assisted Pelham at the scene, while Eastchester and Greenville firefighters were on standby.
