Pelham Manor Officer Woken From Induced Coma

Mike Tillistrand continues to recover at Jacobi Medical Center; a news reports identifies the driver involved in the accident.

Pelham Manor Police Chief Al Mosiello said Mike Tillistrand has woken from a medically induced coma Thursday.

Tillistrand, a 28-year-old officer in the Pelham Manor Police Department, was injured Tuesday night after a motorist struck him near the intersection of Boston Post Road and Edgewood Avenue. The accident happened while Tillistrand was assisting another officer with a traffic stop.

Tillistrand, a Yorktown resident, was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with serious head injuries.

“It’s a relief,” Mosiello said. “We’re all pulling for him.”

Mosiello said the accident remains under investigation. A recent news story has named the driver involved in the accident. But Mosiello declined to confirm or deny if that report is true.

Prior to joining the police department, Tillistrand served as a captain in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Afghanistan. He went on to serve five years with the  New York City Police Department’s 48th Precinct, before joining the Pelham Manor Police Department in July.
