Pelham Manor Police Blotter: Fatal Hit and Run Accident, DWAI Arrest, CVS Theft

Car Crash Witness Charged with Felony for Driving while Drug Impaired, Feb. 16

Raymond Cochrane, 42, of New Rochelle was charged with a felony count for driving while ability impaired by drugs and other vehicle traffic violations on Feb. 16 after police tried to question him about another car crash that had taken place earlier.

Pelham Manor police were at the scene of another property damage that occurred near the Fairway Market on Boston Post Road and tried to interview Cochrane at about 6:45 p.m..

Police said Cochrane was incoherent and smelled of alcohol and marijuana. Cochrane was given a field sobriety test, which he allegedly failed. After the test, police said Cochrane told them that he had two beers and smoked a marijuana cigarette.

Cochrane allegedly requested to be taken to the hospital after he complained of neck and pain, but fought police officers once he was placed on a stretcher. It allegedly took three police officers, a medic and two emergency technicians to restrain Cochrane.

Cochrane was taken to the Sound Shore Medical Center for observation, where he refused drug and alcohol testing. He also threatened officers and refused to take his mug shot properly while he was taken into custody.

Cochrane was arraigned and released to reappear in Pelham court.

Larceny at CVS, Feb. 17.

Pelham Manor police are investigating the theft of a shelf’s worth of Mucinex from the CVS drug store on Boston Post Road.

The incident took place a little after 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 17, when two black men in their mid-20s to early 30s walked into the story empty handed. After the men left, the clerk noticed that an entire shelf of Mucinex had been cleared out.

Prior to the incident, the store manager received a phone call from the manager at a CVS in Mount Vernon warning him that two men that had come into his store earlier in the day and stole more than $2,000 worth of merchandise. The suspect in the Mount Vernon theft fit the same description as the suspects in the Pelham Manor incident.

A review video footage from the Pelham Manor store showed the men walking into store and filling merchandise into their bags before taking off.

The incident remains under investigation.

Fatal Hit and Run Accident on Boston Post Road, Feb. 22

Pelham Manor police assisted New Rochelle police with a fatal hit and run accident that took place shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 near Boston Post Road/Main Street and Cleveland Avenue.

Police said a woman walked into the police station and told them that they saw a woman on the laying on Boston Post Road. Pelham Manor police arrived at the scene and saw that Iris Miranda, 22, and her boyfriend, Alex Vasquez-Jimenez, 22, were injured after being involved in hit and run accident.

Miranda was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where she was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. of head trauma. Vasquez-Jiminez was taken to Sound Shore Medical Center where he is being treated for fractures to the pelvis and head trauma.

New Rochelle police closed a section of Boston Post Road while police investigated the scene. New Rochelle police are searching for white car with front end damage.
