Pelham Manor Police Blotter: Underwear Heist Foisted, House Burglaries Committed and Sick Dog Contaminates Sidewalk

Shoplifters Arrested, June 27, 2012
A group of three women were nabbed Wednesday after an employee from the Annie Sez clothing store, located on 875 Pelham Parkway in Pelham Manor, caught them stealing undergarments and tailed them until police arrived.

Police arrested three Bronx women ages 31, 31 and 52 after they were found in possession of $160 worth of panties from Annie Sez. Police also found merchandise they believe may have been stolen from T.J. Maxx in Mount Vernon, Staples in Mount Vernon and a Marshall’s located in the Bronx.

Just before 1 p.m., an Annie Sez employee called Pelham Manor police and reported that a larceny had just occurred at the store. The employee said four females fled the scene in a silver Jeep.

The employee tailed the alleged shoplifters in her black Ford Escort and saw one of the women exit the vehicle near the United Parcel Service on Boston Post Road. Police were eventually able to catch up to the other three suspects near the intersection of Boston Post Road and Connors Street.

In addition to the merchandise, police found a screwdriver type instrument used to remove security tags and a number of drivers licenses that the suspects said belonged to their relatives.

The women were arrested and each released on $250 bail to appear in Pelham town court at a later date.

Burglary on Highbrook Avenue, June 25
At about 10 p.m. on June 25, a woman reported to police that an Apple laptop was stolen from her home.

The robbery took place sometime between 10  p.m. on June 24 and 9:30 p.m. on June 25.

The woman told police that police that she noticed the computer missing from a sunroom. A window leading into the sunroom was also damages.

Police believe the suspect swiped the laptop, which was near the window, but was unable to enter the house.

The incident remains under investigation.

Burglary on  Witherbee Avenue, June 25
A little before 1 p.m on June 25, a woman reported that an iPad and Amazon Kindle were stolen from her Witherbee Avenue home

The robbery took place sometime between 2 p.m. on June 23 and 4:30 a.m. on June 24.

The woman said she left the equipment on a chair beside her kitchen table. The woman said one of her windows was damaged by someone trying to enter through it. There were two holes in the screen window it was pushed up.

The woman said she has contractors working at the home, but she is home when they arer working and she doesn’t believe that they committed the thefts.

The incident remains under investigation.

Identity Theft, June 23
Police are investigating a complaint for identity theft after a Pelham Manor reported to them on June 23 that someone attempted to use his personal information to gain new credit cards from Capital One and American Express.

The man said request was made to send the new cards out in his name to separate addresses in Manhattan. Later, on June 22, attempts were made to get cash advances of $483 on the American Express card and $503 the Capital One Mastercard.

Both attempts were unsuccessful and the credit cards were cancelled. The victim also placed a credit alert with the credit service bureaus.

The man said the last time he gave out personal information was on June 18, when he purchased a new cell phone at an AT&T store in Larchmont.

Sick Dog Contaminates Sidewalk, June 9
At about 8:30 p.m. on June 9, police received a call from the PetSmart that a dog infected with Leptospirosis had urinated on a grassy areas near the front entrance.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can be passed to humans or animals  if they come into contact with urine or fecal matter from an animal that is infected. It can cause flu-like symptoms, liver damage and possibly death.

PetSmart officials bleached the area immediately, but they were unsure about the effects that bleach would have to the grassy area. Officials from the state and Westchester County health departments were called, and PetSmart employees were advised that they could apply bleach to the grassy area.

The area was taped off by PetSmart employees while the area was being cleaned.

Doctor Cheryl Archbald, the county’s deputy health commissioner for community health, advised the dog’s owner to keep his pet quarantined for three days before having it checked out by a veterinarian.

Grand Larceny, June 9
At about 11:30 p.m. on June 9, a man walked to the checkout area of the Annie Sez clothing store in Pelham Manor and and grabbed 10 to 12 Michael Kors handbags.

The store’s manager told the man several times to return the bag, which are valued at about $1,800, but the suspect ignored her and walked out.

The suspect then entered a blue Chevrolet Tahoe driven by another man and fled the scene. A witness trailed the Tahoe in his vehicle and contacted police. The suspect stopped following the vehicle after it pulled off Franklin Avenue, near Fifth Street in Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon police were alerted and they canvassed the area with no success.

The man who entered the store is described as a heavy set black male; about 6-foot, 2-inches to 6-foot, 4-inches tall;  who is missing his front teeth. He was was wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt at the time of the incident.

The getaway driver is described as a black man of unknown height and weight.
