Pelham Manor Police Chief: Accident Investigation Weeks From Completion

Pelham Manor Police Officer Michael Tillistrand is now conscious after he was hit by car on Boston Post Road on Nov. 15.

Pelham Manor Chief Al Mosiello said the Westchester County Police Department is still completing its reconstruction of the accident that seriously injured Pelham Manor Police Officer Michael Tillistrand last week.

Tillistrand, 28, of Yorktown, after a car driven by Jillian Ruggiero, 27, struck him near the intersection of Boston Post Road and Edgewood Avenue. Tillistrand was assisting another officer with a traffic stop at the time of the accident.

Tillistrand, who was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with serious head injuries, was woken from a medically induced coma on Thursday and recently gained consciousness, according to Mosiello.

“They’ve weened him off of his sedation and he spoke to his family,” Mosiello said. “They still have him on a strict visitation schedule.”

Mosiello said the department is conducting an internal investigation in conjunction with the county police’s accident probe. He said the county police department normally assists with motorvehicle accidents and that their involvement is nothing unusual.

Mosiello said that it will be at least two weeks before the accident report is completed.
