The child’s mother told police that the injuries, which consisted of a small abrasion around the child’s right eye and a bruise to his forehead, might have been been caused by rough housing with siblings, hitting himself with a baseball bat or hitting his head on the corner of a table.

Police said the child, at one time, did state that his aunt had hit him. Investigators said the mother gave them the aunt’s name and phone number, but was uncooperative afterward.
