Pelham Police Blotter: Stolen iPads, stolen jewelry and daring wheelchair rescues

Heroin overdose, Wednesday, 11/02/11
12:13 p.m.: A Brewster man was transported to the Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle after he told police that he was on heroin while on a Metro-North train.

Police arrived at the scene after they received a report that a man had stopped breathing on the train. The train was stopped and police located the man. The man was breathing, but looked like he was impaired by drugs, according to police.

Police called the Pelham Fire Department after the man allegedly told them that he was on heroin. The man was transported to the hospital and the case was handed over to Metropolitan Transit Authority Police for further investigation.

Stolen Jewelry, Tuesday, 11/01/11
8:29 p.m.: Police were called to the scene of a home on Pelhamdale Avenue after they received a report that a sapphire and diamond ring, worth $1,600, and a gold band with a single stone, worth $300, was stolen.

When police arrived, the victim told them that they believed a former babysitter had stolen the jewelry. The babysitter, who had been fired on Oct. 21 due to erratic behavior and poor job performance, had keys to the home at the time of thefts.

Police said the matter was still under investigation Friday.

Stolen iPad, Monday, 10/31/2011
A girl had her iPad 2 stolen during Halloween evening while she was giving candy to trick-or-treaters.

The girl was watching movies on her iPad, valued at $600, in a foyer near the front door of her Nyac Avenue home when three trick-or-treaters stopped by. The girl turned her back to give them candy, but  one of the suspects grabbed the iPad and fled.

The victim’s father tried to chase the thieves down, but was unable to catch them. The victim’s mother called police and informed them that the iPad had GPS tracking software installed.

Police searched the neighborhood, but were unable to catch the suspects. The incident remained under investigation as of Friday.

Wheelchair Rescue, Monday, 10/31/11
5:11 p.m.: Police were dispatched to the area of Eighth Avenue and Sixth Street after they received a report that wheelchair bound women was stuck in the middle of the road.

When police arrived, they found the woman and discovered the battery in her motorized wheelchair had died.

An ambulance was called, but the women refused medical attention. A neighbor assisted the woman back to her apartment.
