Pelham Police Urge Train Users to Remain Cautious

Despite the arrest of a person of interest in two armed robberies that took place near the train station last month, Pelham police say the case is still under investigation and remind commuters to stay alert.

Pelham police are hopeful a man they arrested during a traffic stop last week is the culprit in a series of armed robberies that have taken place near Metro-North train stations in Pelham, Mamaroneck and Harrison.

But commuters are still being urged to use caution walking home until the investigation is officially closed.

“There is a chance it could be him,” said Detective Rick Deere of the Pelham police department. “But we still want people to be careful.”

Police arrested Kyle Taylor, 23, of Mount Vernon and New Rochelle, on Feb. 15 after a traffic stop a little before 11 p.m. Wednesday night at Lincoln and Second avenues, according to police.

During the traffic stop, police discovered that Taylor had an active warrant out of Yonkers for first-degree armed robbery and tried to take him into custody. Taylor is accused of resisting police and running away — eventually being caught about 250 yards away.

Police said they found a loaded 9 mm Beretta they believe belonged to Taylor the next day in yard near the scene of the pursuit. Taylor is currently being held in Westchester County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in Pelham court to answer to a charge of resisting arrested. He is scheduled to appear in Yonkers city court on March 1.

Deere said Pelham police were not able to question Taylor before they turned him over to Yonkers police because he did not have an attorney present.

Police recommend that train users going home at night walk on Highbrook Avenue if they are  going southbound from the station; First Avenue if they are walking east, south of the track; Highbrook Avenue if they are walking north into Pelhamwood; Washington Avenue if they are walking northeast, north of the track in Pelhamwood; and Fifth Avenue if they are walking northwest, to Pellville and Chester Park.
