Tax Fraudster with Business in Mt. Vernon Bilks State Out of $120K

Tax preparer pleads guilty to grand larceny and unemployment fraud.

Chiara-Monai Hudson of 4320 Baychester Avenue, Bronx, NY, pled guilty on Monday to Grand Larceny  and Criminal Tax Fraud for filing false unemployment claims and state tax returns, according to a release issued Monday from the district attorney's office.

Between 2010 and 2012, the defendant, according to the release, filed false unemployment claims and defrauded the Dept. of Taxation by filing false tax returns for and collecting refunds, with a total loss to the state over $121,750.

Hudson falsely claimed she had been employed by Byram Healthcare, a White Plains medical supply company, according to the release, and submitted false wage and pay stub information to receive unemployment insurance benefits totaling $12,150.

Hudson, working with unapprehended others, submitted 18 other false unemployment claims to the Dept. of Labor seeking additional benefits, according to the statement.

The defendant, a tax preparer and owner of Arlanna’s Accounting Services,  formerly in Mt. Vernon, submitted false 2009 tax returns the name of four individuals, according to the release, receiving refunds exceeding $5,600 and admitted to filing over 100 additional false tax returns between 2010 and 2011 for which refund checks exceeded $100,000.

The defendant was arrested by investigators from the Westchester County District Attorneys office and the Department of Labor.
