Fancy Footwear Thefts

In Mount Kisco, thieves apparently have a taste for designer footwear. On Aug. 1, a woman told police that her $750 Michael Kors sandals were stolen from a locker at local health and fitness club. On Aug. 4, a Mount Kisco man reported the theft of four pairs of Air Jordan vintage sneakers. Each pair costs $400.

Man Robbed at Cemetery

An 84-year-old Scarsdale man was robbed last Saturday while tending flowers at his family's plot at Kensico Cemetery.

Mount Pleasant Police said the man was working at his family’s plot around 12:15 p.m. when an unidentified man came from behind, pushed him to the ground, stole his wallet and fled. The victim chased the robber in his vehicle for about 10 minutes before calling the police.

Police were unable to find the robber, who fled with the victim’s credit card and cash. The elderly man was uninjured in the incident.

 

Supermarket Pharmacy Worker Steals Oxycontin

A 24-year-old West Nyack supermarket technician is accused of stealing $1,800 in Oxycontin pills from Shop Rite. Shakera Latoya Franklin was arrested Monday at the ShopRite supermarket in West Nyack, where she also worked. The supermarket discovered thefts were taking place at the pharmacy and launched an internal investigation, which led to Franklin’s arrest.

 

Dangerous Granny?

A Tarrytown man recently called police and told them that his grandmother was trying to kill him. Police arrived on the scene and discovered that the man had gotten into a verbal dispute with his grandmother about living conditions. Police filed a domestic incident report and advised both relatives about their family court options.

 

Close, but No Cigar

Police charged a 17-year-old man with harassment after he punched an Eastchester gas station attendant who refused to sell him a cigar. The teenager attempted to buy the cigar at Gulf Express on White Plains Road and got mad when the attendant refused to sell him the item when he failed to show ID. The suspect was so angry he punched the man in the arm.

  

Bloomingdale Employee Steals High-End Toothbrush, Other Items

A Bloomingdale’s employee in White Plains stole a Braun shaver, a Sonic Care toothbrush, a Burberry sweater and a Polo shirt on two separate occasions on July 7 and Aug. 6.  The items totaled $725. Police responded to the store on Saturday and nabbed the suspect, who was charged with petty larceny and released without bail.

 

Man Steals Appliances from Kohl’s

A 53-year old Bronx man was arrested on Aug. 4 after reportedly stealing from a Kohl’s store in Bedford Hills in March. The arrest is the result of a five-month investigation, which launched after store employees saw the man stealing two vacuums and two kitchen mixers from a storage area in the back of the store. The man was arrested and released on $1,000. He is scheduled to appear in Bedford Town Court at a later date.

 

911 call for seizures leads to marijuana arrest

A 30-year-old Bedford Hills man was arrested after his friend called 911 to report that the man was having seizures. Police responded the apartment of Michael Buco around 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 7 and smelled marijuana, according to a report. Buco told police he had smoked the drug. He was taken to the hospital and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

 

Illegal Treehouse

Apparently dodging building standards is a serious matter in Pleasantville—even if all you're building is a treehouse. One resident found that out the hard way when he received a summons listing a $250 fine for allegedly building a "treehouse in violation of building code" in his backyard on Aug. 5. The resident is due in court on Aug. 16.

 

Drunken Man Inadvertently Calls the Cops on Himself

A 24-year-old White Plains man who called police to report that his nephew had gone missing ultimately found himself facing a drunk driving charge. The man was parked at a local gas station when police arrived and responded to his call. He told police that he had dropped off his nephew but didn’t remember where. The man was slurring his speech and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Police ran a license check and called the man’s brother. They discovered that the man’s nephew wasn’t missing and was at home. They then charged the man with a misdemeanor DWI after he refused to take a field sobriety test.
