Police Arrest Three in Village Street Fight

A tenant in the Van Tassel apartment building described the scene as a huge street brawl.

Editor's Note: The original version of this article incorrectly located the fight and connected it with a local bar. That section of the report has been removed. Patch regrets the error.

The downtown bar scene has been the subject of heated discussion among Sleepy Hollow residents, particularly some at the Van Tassels. See our earlier article here. Check back with Patch for an overview of recent police activity and residents' concerns.

Three people were arrested after a fight on Pocantico Street at about 3:30 a.m. Nov. 12, Sleepy Hollow police said.

Police responded to a call about a large fight in progress. According to the police report, two Sleepy Hollow units responded, with more from Tarrytown PD soon after.

Katie Schlientz, a resident of the nearby Van Tassel apartments, said she called the police, reporting a dozen people fighting including a woman who had been punched in the face.

According to the police report, an officer requested an ambulance be dispatched with a medic. The officer also requested that “TTPD step up their response,” which the Tarrytown police did.

Schlientz said she was awoken by the sounds of screaming on the street.

Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Gregory Camp said the disputants came from the Oasis bar on Beekman Avenue. Schlientz said she thought they came from the Huddle.

Camp said that his officers found no sign of any problems inside the Oasis, and reported that “nothing started inside the bar, at least that was observed.”

The woman who was punched refused treatment at the scene, Camp said.

Police, who have not yet released the names of the three arrested in the brawl, gave this information about the charges:

  • One 31-year-old man from Tarrytown, charged with third degree assault and resisting arrest.
  • One 23-year-old woman from Elmsford, charged with disorderly conduct.
  • One 23-year-old woman from Tarrytown, charged with disorderly conduct.

Why are people surprised that there are fights outside of bars? What do you think is going to happen at closing time and people spill out on to the street after having a few too many? Why do you think that people are getting "paid to look the other way"? The police responded and three people were arrested. It does not sound like anyone got paid there. What more can the police do in that situation?

Its NOT THE BAR but the society. Always to blame everyone but the people fighting and the families that raised the animals.
