Vandals Damage Sculpture at Pelham Art Center

Police are investigating vandal damage to two outdoor installations at Pelham Art Center.

Last Monday afternoon, vandals damaged two outdoor installations at Pelham Art Center.

According to Town of Pelham police reports, a worker in a nearby building noticed a group of young people smoking and milling about in the Art Center courtyard. When he went closer to check the area, the worker noticed several of the art pieces had been moved. Art Center noticed the pieces had been significantly damaged. One had dings and scratches on its face, the other also had dents. 

Art Center staff reported the incident to the police who also observed the damage.

The two pieces by artist Melita Westerlund are called "Grounded" and "Symbiosis II." They have been valued at $6,000 and $4,500 respectively.  

Pelham Art Center has not yet responded to a request for comment about the inicident.
