Village of Pelham Police Blotter: Fraud, Fraud, and Some Sticky Fingers

A glance at recent investigations by the Village of Pelham Police Department.

3/8/11

3:27 a.m. Police were called to a Fifth Avenue apartment to respond to a child keeled over from stomach pain. Paramedics responded to the scene as well. The child was verbally responsive so oxygen was not administered. The child was taken to Lawrence Hospital via ambulance.

 6:30 a.m. Police received a call about a low hanging utility wire at the Pelham Metro North Train Station. As it was disrupting commuting flow, it was immediately investigated and found to be a cable wire.

12:15 p.m. A First Avenue resident received a call from a male who identified himself as Robert Spence. Spence then identified himself as a bank official from HSBC and requested the resident’s personal information, social security number, and D.O.B.  The resident informed the Village of Pelham Police and an officer traced the call. The number was identified as a cell phone. The police officer then called the number, and a man answered who identified himself under a different identity. The man continued to ask for money but then promptly stopped talking when he learned that he was talking to the police.

1:50 p.m. At First Avenue, a Pelham student reported that his Blackberry phone (valued at $300) and $5 had been stolen. He told Pelham Police that he had left the phone and cash in his wallet while he attended gym class and returned to find them missing.

3/3/2011

 7:51 a.m. A disabled vehicle was found at the corner of Highbrook and Boulevard facing traffic and on the opposite side of the road than its intended use. Police removed the vehicle to avoid any hazards to other motorists.

3/2/11

4:23 p.m. A Fifth Avenue store owner reported to police that more than $15,000 of fraudulent charges had been made to his credit card. The charges had come from one location, an Internet company that was not disclosed in the report. The owner’s bank cancelled the credit cards. The case was transferred to the Detective department.
