Jackpot! Empire City Casino Earns $315M For State's Schools

52 percent of net winnings by casino at Yonkers Raceway go to education funding.

Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway generated nearly $315 million for education during the 2011-2012 fiscal year, according to the state Division of Lottery.

As part of Empire City Casino’s ongoing support of New York’s education, 52 percent of Empire City Casino net win goes directly to the Lottery to fund education.

Since opening in October 2006, Empire City Casino has generated nearly $1.5 billion in education funding for New York schools.

“Generating $1.5 Billion for schools in our state is incredible and it’s something we’re very proud of,” said Tim Rooney Jr., general counsel at Empire City Casino. “Our property accounts for nearly half of all revenues produced by racetrack casinos for education in New York and we continue to work to ensure that our numbers grow year over year. This is only the beginning.”

In addition to these financial contributions to the Lottery, Empire City Casino also contributes to the state and supports the local community. In just the past five years, Empire City Casino has contributed more than $150 million in aid to the City of Yonkers.

Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway features: 5,300 slot machines, video roulette, electronic craps and baccarat tables, Italian dining in Nonno’s Trattoria, and trackside dining in the Empire Terrace Restaurant, which overlooks the track for live harness racing, as well as a quick bite at the International Food Court and its wide-ranging menu.

Empire City Casino is open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 4 a.m.

So, I guess my question is; if there wasn't the Lotto and "Casino" money coming in, what money would be used to fund education? This headline falls right in with Albany wants the general public to believe. This is "Extra" money for our schools. Yet, with all this "extra" money coming in and obscene local property taxes, schools still can't pay for everything they need. I guess it all fits with the theme here, since this is all one big "Shell Game" that Albany plays with our tax dollars.

Wow! $1.5 billion for our children!...No wonder our schools are so good! (Hey, why are my school taxes $12,000 per year?)

I have to agree with George that I would not want to see the scenario where none of this money exists. I'm all for the expansion of Empire City since they do bring in so many millions of dollars per year for education.

Its nothing but a lose/lose when you go there, no matter what! Precisely why I will not be going there anymore! Ive given them enough of my hard earned money! It's no long fun, there's not a chance of winning! All they do is take take take and build build build. There are no perks, no deals, no coupons or freebies worth going there for. In fact, theyre cutting back the lucky ladies on Tuesdays; really!! Shove it!

If they donated so much to education why is MY school closing!?
