Pelham Holds Public Hearing for 2012 Town Budget

Town is scheduled to approve $3.4 million budget on Dec. 19.

The Pelham town board is set to move forward with its $3.4 million budget proposal after Monday’s lightly attended public hearing.

No one spoke at the hearing, which represented the final step before the town board approves it budget on Dec. 19. represents a -5.8 percent, or $212,534.47, decrease from this year’s budget.

The tentative budget would carry a tax levy of $1,570,757.55, which represents an increase of about 1.84 percent from this year’s levy.

Town Supervisor Joe Solimine said there have been a few minor changes made to the proposal since it was presented to the public last month. The proposal now includes about $6,900 for software upgrades to the computer system used by the receiver of taxes and $1,500 for workers compensation.

Solimine said the additional expenses will be covered by shifting budget lines within the proposal.

The board contemplated passing a local law earlier this year after it appeared that the 2012 tax levy was going to exceed the cap. Soliminie said the town is no longer considering that option.
