Update: Pelham Manor Fire Department Gets More Funding and New Tools

Pelham Manor's Board of Trustees pass a number of resolutions benefitting the fire department on Monday night.

FEMA Fire Department Funding Passed

Board of Trustees members authorized a resolution enabling the Village Manager to accept a local share of FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant. This resolution will allow the fire department to purchase $18,000 worth of new equipment, and the municipality is required to cover only 20 percent of it.

Pelham Manor will pay the $3,600, as required by the Inter-Municipal Agreement, and the new equipment will become property of Pelham Manor Fire Department.

“Many of these FEMA grants come across our desk all the time and we never know which ones we will get approval on, but this one luckily came through,” remarked Fire Chief Joseph Ruggiero.

The fire department will continue to Holmatro Rescue Tools as its single source for rescue tools.

Fire Chief Ruggiero noted that these tools, better known as “the jaws of life,” are getting worn down after more than 30 years of use and a grant will help cover the cost of buying the new Holmatro Rescue Tools.

Village Treasurer optimistic about end of year budget

The Village Treasurer said he is optimistic about the rest of fiscal year. Pierpont noted that, “things are not too far off of what was anticipated going into the last month of the fiscal year.”

Pierpont also commented that, “we may be down on reserves from this year compared to last, but everything else is on course.”

Correction: Pelham Manor is responsible for paying $3,600 for new equipment, not New Rochelle. The fire department has, and will continue to use, Holmatro Rescue Tools.
