With this being Thanksgiving so many of us have many many thanks to give. There are many people who unfortunately cannot enjoy the day as many of us can. Many unbelievable charities like People To People always try and make days like this better for those less fortunate.
At Hi-Tor our focus is on our furry friends. They don't know about Thanksgiving but we want to be able to celebrate our happiness with them. Animals provide a great source of companionship for many. They even can be medicinal as demonstrated by programs on how animals can bring new life into seniors who sometimes feel their lives withering away into loneliness. They provide assistance for the disable and they even prove themselves in combat.
Rockland County has only one animal shelter. Since 2003 Hi-Tor has been the sole facility to take care of all the homeless animals that county residents bring to its door. This is their obligation and they will not turn any animal away.
The shelter is suffering from age. Many assess the problem to poor prior management. Many to lack of funding. Many to misappropriation of past funding.
Rebuild Hi-Tor is set up to turn this around. We are going to raise the funds to build a new shelter. One that is safer for both the animals as well as those that work there and volunteer there.
The County of Rockland has no funds. The towns have no funds. With a little help from the residents of Rockland County this new shelter will become a reality. The team leading the shelter right now is phenomenal. Adoption levels are at an all time high. But then so are the numbers of homeless pets being brought to Hi-Tor.
Donations are the prime source of building the new shelter. Donations can be made by visiting the rebuildhitor.org website, by purchasing a brick for the new shelter by donating money in one of the hundreds of donation canisters around the county and by adopting homeless pets.
The first week in December starts off a series of events that we hope will be taken advantage of by Rockland residents as a means to donate money without spending anything additional other than going out and enjoying a good meal. Many restaurants are stepping up to help Rebuild.
On Saturday December 1 The Turn on 2 Campbell Road in Suffern will donate 10% of all revenue that day to Rebuild. On December 5 Cinco de Mayo will host Cinco de Diciembre at its Valley Cottage restaurant on Route 303. Again 10% of its revenue that day will go to Rebuild. For the entire week, December 2-8, The Dog House in Nanuet will also offer all customers a chance to donate by their mentioning and bringing in a coupon for Rebuild. They will donate 10% of all coupon revenue they get that week to the effort. The coupon is located on the flier pictured in this article.
We want to see you at these restaurants and in January look for dining events at Grande Centrale, Jimmy's On Main, Harbourside, Rocco's and more!
Thanks to all who are coming out to support the well being of our homeless pets and don't forget to visit Hi-Tor. The shelter will not be closed during this fund raising or during the construction of the new facility. They still have oodles of animals to find forever homes for and you or someone you know can share your love with a shelter pet.
