Blood drive will last from 3:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

PELHAM, NY — Yes, Halloween is over.

But that want stop some of the students at the in Pelham from dressing up during .

Fourth and fifth grade students from the school’s “Lunch Bunch” program are teaming up with the New York Blood Centers “Little Doctors” program to host the drive, which will last from 3:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. One of the perks for students who volunteer is they get to wear medical scrubs during the event.

“The kids love it,” said Louise Kelly, a parent at the school who is volunteering for the event. “It encourages them to help out in different ways and to get people to help out.”

The “Lunch Bunch” program was started at the school a few years ago to help students about civics and community service. The blood drive is just one of a few programs the students will be involved with this year.

"Little Doctors" is a program sponsored by the Blood Center that gives students a chance to organize their own blood drives.

In the weeks leading up to the drive, students could be seen handing out flyers and telling people to schedule appointments.

During the drive, students will help out by greeting donors and serving refreshments. Students who are a little squeamish about seeing blood will help by operating a babysitting room.

Emilie Kelly, Louise’s daughter and a fourth-grader at the school, is excited about the drive.

“My favorite part is probabaly being able to watch Looney Tunes in the babysitting room,” she said.
