Corlies Parking Lot Changes Decided in Pelham

The Pelham School Board has changed the design of the Corlies parking lot at the high school in response to community input.

Spokeswoman Angela Cox said the board approved increasing the number of parking spaces to 74 from 68, providing a wider turning radius for trucks making deliveries and including a row of trees and green space.

Superintendent Peter Giarrizzo worked with the board and residents to find a design solution that would address all the needs.

Cox said the board agreed that it was safer to have a sidewalk for students and teachers adjacent to the high school and that a stretch of sidewalk on the outside of the lot between two rows of cars would be removed.

To offset the additional cost of the design changes, the Pelham Preservation Society donated about $23,000.
