Author Lucia Greenhouse will read from her acclaimed book

Lucia Greenhouse, author of the acclaimed memoir fathermothergod: My Journey Out of Christian Science will read from her book on Tuesday, February 7 at 4 p.m. at the Esther Rauschenbush Library on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College. The reading by Greenhouse, a former student in the College’s Writing Institute, precedes an Open House for the Writing Institute to be held at 6 p.m. at the College’s 45 Wrexham Road Center for Continuing Education.

After years of struggle writing her memoir about a family practicing Christian Science, Greenhouse discovered The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence. For the next four years, she studied the Art of the Memoir with Joelle Sander, a class that Sander has taught for close to two decades.

“That class gave me the structure and discipline I needed,” says Greenhouse. “Joelle had a way of helping me tackle very sensitive material. She gently encouraged me to go where the essence of truth was.”
