Pelham Elementary School Principal Assignments Made for 2012-2013

The Pelham school district has made its elementary school assignments for the 2012-2013 school year.

Tonya Wilson is assigned to Colonial Elementary School, Carla Tarazi to Hutchinson Elementary School,  Richard Limato to Prospect Hill Elementary School and Susan Gilbert to Siwanoy Elementary School.

Pelham schools superintendent Dennis Lauro made the appointments after meeting with the principals and finding out their goals for next year.

“We have a great team of principals and have been reassured of their commitment to the improvement of teaching and learning,” Lauro said. “They will continue to move the district ahead by working closely with all stakeholders to implement the new common core standards and a new evaluation system for teachers.”

An elementary school principal vacancy was created earlier this year when Robert Roelle Jr., the current principal of  Prospect Hill Elementary School, was hired to become the Pelham Middle School principal next year. Roelle was hired after Joseph Longobardi announced he is retiring as middle school principal next year.

Limato, who will become Prospect Hill Elementary School’s new principal, served as the district’s director of elementary education, but that position was eliminated from the 2012-2013 school budget. As tenured principal with seniority,  Limato had the right to return to a job comparable to the director’s position.

Peter Giarrizzo, the district’s assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and personnel, absorb the responsibilities of the director of elementary education.
