Pelham Hockey Falls to Rye

Rye ends losing streak.

The Rye Garnets broke a three-year losing streak in their victory (3-2) over the Pelham Pelicans on Tuesday night, according to an article by MSG Varsity’s Isaac Cass.

Enthusiastic fans cheered their team at the Hommocks Park Ice Rick as the Garnets quickly scored a 3-0 lead after two periods, Cass wrote.

Cass highlighted Connor McGovern for a goal and an assit, Cal Hynson For scoring the first goal and Rye senior captain Jason Chin for his score as well.

Here are Cass’s “Keys to the Game”

1) Pelham doomed by second-period penalties: Pelham saw the game slip away in the second period. The Pelicans, who were outscored 2-0, were called for four penalties to Rye's zero. While the Garnets didn't cash in on a power-play goal, they dominated possession and outshot Pelham 10-5.
2) Rye limits Schauer and Cullen: Rye keyed in on Pelham's top two guns Andrew Schauer and Will Cullen, limiting the duo to just an assist apiece. Both players tend to handle the puck a lot and use their speed and skills to create opportunities attacking the net. The Garnets were ready for it. "We knew they would try and skate the puck up so we tried to push them to a side, pinch, close them off and make sure they couldn't get to the net," Hynson said.

Congratulations to the Garnets!
