Pelham School Board Approves Tax Report Card; Give Tax Rate Details for Budget Proposal

The public is scheduled to vote on the district's $65.5 million budget proposal on May 15.

The Pelham School board approved the property tax report card for its $65.5 million budget proposal during a special meeting that was held Wednesday.

Angela Cox, a spokeswoman for the school district, said she is working to get those figures up on the district’s Web site, as soon as possible. The property tax report card is document that the state requires school districts to provide that gives a snapshot of this year’s budget proposal and tax levy. The document also compares how the proposal compares to this year’s budget.

The board of education had until Saturday to submit the report card to the state.

The Pelham school board approved a $65,560,607 budget proposal for next year during Monday’s meeting.

The spending plan represents a 3.75 percent increase from this year’s budget and an increase of about 2.6 percent from this year’s tax levy.

The homestead, or residential, tax rate per $1,000 of assessed valuation under the proposal would be $18.38, which represents 6.3 percent increase. The non-homestead, or commercial, tax rate would be roughly $24.56, which represents an 11.67 percent increase.

The school board is scheduled to have a public hearing for the budget on May 1 at 8 p.m., inside Alumni Hall.
