Fryer was born in Johannesburg and she has been playing soccer since she was four. In 2004 she moved to New York and her love of the game continued as she played for the Patriots and Pelham High School. At 15 she plays with the 16 year olds for the Patriots and as a freshman she led the Pelicans in goals scored this year.

“Playing with my varsity team at Pelham allowed me to have fun and make new friends that were in different grades.” Said Fryer, “I also got to practice my weaknesses, so that when I played nationally and with my club team, I would be better. The national team and my club team are both more intense and the other players, as well as myself, play for fun, but also we play to get farther in life socially, academically, physically, and mentally.”

Currently Fryer is playing for the South African woman’s under 17 team and she makes the 16,000 mile trek from Pelham to South Africa once ever six weeks. Last year she played in seven international games for the same squad that represented South Africa in the FIFA World Cup.

One thing Fryer and the rest of her team does is stop in at small towns and villages across the world to talk to school children about the importance of getting a good education, and how to use soccer to help get educated.

As of right now Fryer continues to play soccer across the globe, and it clearly hasn’t hurt her grades as she is toward the top of her class with a 3.8 grade point average.  Even though she is just a freshman Fryer has lofty goals for her future on the field.

“I want to play for the senior team, Banyana banyana, and I would love to play college soccer.” The Pelican freshman continued, “But my big goal is to make the South African team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janerio.”

Currently Fryer is one of 50 semifinalists for the Inspireum Soccer Awards and all she needs to get into the top 12 is collect as many of your votes as possible.
