Pelham Daily Sports Digest: Pelham Volleyball Wins in Regional Semis

The Pelican volleyball team continues to roll as they beat Owego Free Academy 3-1 yesterday. Next up Pelham will take on Red Hook at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Bard College.

The United Way of Putnam and Westchester counties is hosting the third annual run united, a 5k run for health at Purchase College.

The Proceeds are to support initiatives to reduce childhood obesity, get healthy foods to low income families, and steer teens away from risky behaviors like drugs and alcohol. People of all ages are encouraged to participate.

According to the press release, registration begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the Toddler Dash at 8:30, the 5K Run at 8:45 and the 1-Mile Run/Walk at 8:55 a.m.  A half-hour awards ceremony takes place from 10 – 10:30 a.m. Toddlers and 1-Mile participants will receive ribbons, and 5k runners can win awards in age and gender categories.

Highlights: After dropping the second set the Pelicans went on to win the third and forth to stay alive and stare down a regional title. Tori Bowser led the team with 13 kills, and Lauren Keller had 1 kill and 41 assists as the team advanced past Owego. The win was also Coach Finegan’s 300th career victory.
