Daily Sports Digest: Pelicans Are Back In Action After Holliday Weekend

The Pelicans were back in full swing after a long weekend and while some teams struggled others had success. Pelham won both field hockey and boy’s soccer games on the road, but the girl’s soccer team struggled at home while the Pelham volleyball team lost a close one at Ursuline.

Yesterday’s Results:

Sport: Field Hockey

Game: Pelham @ Clarkstown South

Score:  Pelham Won 2-1

Highlights: Pelham picked up the road victory on the strength 12 saves from Caroline Fink and goals from Melissa Capurro and Chandler Solimine. In the losing effort Casie Keegan had five saves while Michelle Jordan picked up the lone goal for the Vikings.

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Eastchester @ Pelham

Score: Eastchester Won 3-1

Highlights: The Eagles were led by goal keeper Sara Doyle who picked up 10 saves in the victory. While Doyle took care of the defense Marcelle Schepisi and Danielle Jensen took care of the scoring as Shepisi found the back of the net twice. Claire Fogarty had 13 saves in the loss for Pelham and Caitlin Fryer scored the loan goal for the Pelicans.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Pelham @ Ursuline

Score: Ursuline Won 3-2

Highlights: It wasn’t easy but the Koalas were able to escape the Hungry Pelicans 3-2. As Pelham was up 2 sets to 1 but the Pelicans were not able to close it out on the road. Pelham’s Lauren Keller had 43 assists while Tori Bowser had 15 kills in the loss. In the victory Ursuline was led by Julie Parascandola, Kristen Knight, and Lauren Biolsi, each of the three had double digit kills.

Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: Pelham @ Ardsley

Score: Pelham Won 1-0

Highlights: Pelham won the early season match up against Ardsley with good defense and timely scoring, they did the same thing yesterday. Luke Szendiuch pitched a shut out in goal for the pelicans collecting 8 saves in the victory while Aiden Murray picked up the game’s only goal in the first half.

Today’s Schedule:

In boy’s soccer, the Pelicans will host Bronxville at 4:30. When the two teams met in September the game ended in a scoreless tie.

In girl’s swimming, Pelham will head to the College of New Rochelle to take on the Ursuline Koalas at 4:30.

In girl’s tennis, Pelham will head to Edgemont for a 4:15 match.
