Tornadoes Wreck Boulders, 18-2

Teams face each other at Provident Bank Park tonight.

The Worcester Tornadoes showed no effects of the loss from the night before as they defeated the Boulders 18-2 on Camp Day at Provident Bank Park on Tuesday.

Campers from the area witnessed first hand what the Worcester offense is capable of on a daily basis.  The Tornadoes produced their best offensive game of the season as they registered a team best 25 hits, including at least one from every batter in the lineup.

Worcester struck first in the second inning by batting around their lineup.  Anthony Sosnoskie homered to right field to give the Tornadoes an early 1-0 lead.  The inning continued as Cameron Monger tripled and was then singled home by Alex Nunez to extend the Tornadoes lead by two.  Abraham Nunez singled to extend the inning, followed by a wild pitch to move the runners up a base.  Chris Colabello had a base hit to score them making it 4-0, and was followed by a Mark Minicozzi two-run home run to make it 6-0.  Alex Trezza -who hit for the cycle- kept the inning going with a single, which knocked Fry out of the game.  Brett Carroll replaced him and got Rockland out of the inning.  All the Worcester runs came with two outs.

Worcester came right back again with two outs in the third inning.  Alex Nunez singled up the middle and would go on to score all the way from first as Colabello collected his third run batted in of the day with a double to deep-center field.  Minicozzi then doubled off the wall in right-center field to score Colabello and extend the Tornadoes lead to 8-0 before he was thrown out at second to end the inning.

Rockland got on the board with one out in the third.  Barry Wesson singled up the middle to score Ryan Mollica from second base to give the Boulders their first run of the game.

In the fourth, Worcester drove their lead back up to eight runs with a sacrifice fly from Nick Selotti making the score 9-1.

In the fifth, Wesson tried rallying the Boulders again, as he led off with a double and ended up scoring on an error after Minicozzi and Alex Nunez were involved in a collision cutting the Worcester lead to seven.

In the sixth, Worcester came up with another answer to Rockland’s previous run thanks to a three-run home run from Trezza to extend the lead to 12-2.

In the eighth, the Tornadoes continued adding to their total as Abraham Nunez and Colabello hit back-to-back home runs making the score 16-2.

In the ninth, the Tornadoes tacked on two more runs to make the final score 18-2.

The Boulders (7-9, 26-36) will wrap up the three game series against Worcester (11-5, 32-31) today at Provident Bank Park.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Bobby Blevins (5-5) will make his fourteenth start for the Boulders as he faces off against Worcester’s Kevin Cooper (4-2).
