Potatoes Used by Pelham Children to Decorate T-shirts

White T-shirts were decorated by Pelham children Tuesday at the Pelham Public Library, as one of its summer recreation programs.

Children's Servies Librarian Lilly Hecker, and other adults, led the children through the exercise of making a drawing, cutting it out and then tracing it on the cut side of a potato.

After adults cut away enough of the potato to reveal the design, the children dabbed their potatoes into brightly colored dimensional fabric paint and they pressed them onto freshly washed white T-shirts.

Some of the children also applied sparkles on the still-moist designs.

Hecker said the T-shirts should be allowed to dry overnight at which point they can be worn and washed.
