Summer Festival, Story Time and Veggie Cooking

Things for the younger set and their families to do this week.

 

1.) Wednesday Storytime
Where/
When:,530 Colonial Ave, Pelham, NY, Wednesday, July 18; 10:05 a.m. to 10:35 a.m., 10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Why go: The Pelham Public Library is hosting Wednesday Storytimes children ages 2 and younger. The first session lasts from 10:05 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. and the second session lasts from 10:45 a.m, to 11:15 a.m.
Pricing: Free.

2).
Where/When:
St. Paul’s Church National Historic Site, 897 S Columbus Ave, Mount Vernon, Saturday, July 18, 1 p.m.
Why go:
Witness a costumed demonstration about the life of a Revolutionary War soldier. Refreshments provided.

3.)
Where/When:
, 100 Bloomingdale Rd, White Plains; Wednesday, July 18; 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go:
The Veggiecation Program and Whole Foods Market in White Plains are working together so that kids have a busy and healthy summer. Using fresh summer fruits and veggies, kids will prepare green leaf salad with berries and balsamic vinaigrette and simple, nut-free basil pesto. Kids will be invited to help prepare Veggiecation Program’s recipes, sample culinary creations, experience vegetables in their raw form and cast a vote on how they liked the recipes. Kids will take home complimentary character coloring pages, word games, mazes and stickers.

4.) Teen Board Game Bonanza
Where/When:
, 1 Library Plz., New Rochelle, Friday, July 20; 3 p.m to 5 p.m.
Why go:  
A tabletop gaming extravaganza for teens. Favorite board games like Monolopy, Life, Jenga and Uno will be available to play. The event is for students entering grades 6 - 12.

5.)
Where/When:
Beczak Environmental Education Center, 35 Alexander St, Yonkers; Saturday, July 21, White Plains, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Why go: Join Beczak’s “Catch of the Day Seining” and wade into the Hudson River and see what you catch. Waterproof overalls for all sizes provided. Visitors to Summerfest will be able to participate in the Great Hudson River Fish Count, a snapshot of fish distribution in the Hudson River estuary. NYSDEC will tabulate fish counts from Beczak's Catch of the Day Seining on July 21. There will also be performances by Yonkers Idol winners Maya Katyajini Ghosh Lisbin, the 2012 Yonkers Junior Idol; Emma Clarke, the  2011 Yonkers Junior Idol; and the Nepperhan Drum Corps. There will also be games, art projects and sprinkler fun. BBQ hotdogs, hamburgers and Italian ice will be on sale.
