Lulu's Mystery Solved: Poodle in a Brindle Package

On Saturday, we asked Patch readers from Pelham to Westport and north as far as Danbury to submit their best guess as to Lulu's breed. We featured three photos of Lulu, who is Adopt-A-Dog's designated "Princess" at their Puttin' on the Dog event Sunday.

Thanks to Jim Byrne on Pelham Patch for a good guess as to Lulu's mysterious mix! Jim guessed, "greyhound-german shepherd-catahoula!"

On Wilton Patch Gary Morland guessed, "It looks like a pit-bull and something else," which is an interesting guess. This Patch editor has a pit bull and a black lab and Lulu looks more like my lab than my pit.   

In Norwalk Margaret guessed "caramel swirl." Sorry, Margaret, that's not really a dog breed.

"VillageFriend" guessed Lulu is a "Feist," which Patch had to look up to learn that breed is "a type of small hunting dog, developed via crossbreeding of various other hunting breeds in the rural southern United States." Yes, Lulu definitely looks like the Feists that come up in an image search.

Tina Aronson in Greenwich guessed, "catahoula, shep, canaan, pit. See ya tomorrow!!!" Hmm, getting warmer now.

• Standard Poodle: 18.47%
• Irish Setter: 3.64%
• Samoyed: 2.37%
• Japanese Spitz: 1.84%
• Finnish Lapphund: 1.79%

The results were shared by Brian at Adopt-A-Dog in Armonk, where Lulu makes her home while waiting for her forever home.

Who would ever have guessed that there's almost 20% of a standard poodle in Lulu?

Yes, I hope to see everyone at Adopt-A-Dog's Puttin' on the Dog event in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich (just off exit 3 of I-95, at 100 Arch St.). The event runs 10:00a.m. until 4:30p.m. and the weather should be perfect.
