<p>Originally built as a four-classroom, two-story brick building in 1900, the Colonial Elementary School underwent extensive renovations in 1926 and again in the 1990s. Today, Colonial accommodates approximately 300 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. </p> <p>The school implemented a number of literacy and math initiatives this year, including the Wilson Fundation Program. Fundations aims to improve the reading skills of kindergarten and first grade students during 30-minute classroom sessions that focus predominantly on print knowledge, alphabet awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, spelling and phonics.</p> <p>In addition to the school's rigorous academic and innovative initiatives, Colonial places a heavy emphasis on the arts, encouraging students to build upon their music and art skills. </p>
