What began as an after-school program in 1986 eventually evolved into a full-on nursery program once founder, MaryMore O'Connell, recognized the neighborhood's need for Junior Wonders Nursery School.</p> <p>Since 1992, Junior Wonders has offered 2, 3 and 4-year-old children half-day morning and afternoon classes in the Community Church of the Pelhams. The staff aims to teach self-expression, body coordination, language skills, sharing and school readiness skills and invites guest speakers throughout the year, like members of the Pelham Police and Fire Departments.</p> <p>Parents get to join in the activities for monthly and seasonal events, including the Halloween Parade and Family Fun Day. </p>

When the Siwanoy School could no longer accommodate the area's grammar and secondary school students, the PelhamMore Memorial High School opened it doors to grades nine through 12 in 1922.</p> <p>Students here engage in a rigorous academic program and have achieved numerous national awards that speak to the curriculum's standards. In the last two years, PMHS nabbed 24 Latin National Exam Awards, High School Women's Art Exhibit Award--Best in Show and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Medal Yearbook award, among many other noteworthy achievements.</p> <p>PMHS offers more than 110 courses, which includes four foreign languages (French, Italian, Spanish and Latin) and students can take their studies outside of the classroom and into the numerous specialized labs: The Bio-Tech Lab, Foreign Language Media Lab, Broadcast Media Studio, and Macintosh Lab. </p> <p>Students seeking one-on-one guidance can head to the tutoring center, writing mentor program and counseling services.</p>

A century ago, this school opened its doors with the name Pelham High School and served students K-12. But once theMore current PMHS entered the community, this institution became the Siwanoy School and now caters to grades K-5.</p> <p>Despite the reduced number of grades, Siwanoy's lofty mission has remined the same: to cultivate a diverse, open and academically challenging environment.</p> <p>To foster a balanced and heterogeneous class setting, the faculty here accounts for students' gender, learning styles, social and emotional issues, academic profile, parent input and special needs when determining class assignments.</p> <p>In addition to the major discipline courses, students in grades two through five participate in Encore classes, which include, art, music, research, study skills and chorus. Students are also exposed to a number of creative, athletic and academic extra-curricular activities including, intramurals, 24-Game Club, Magic Mailbox and Peer Mediators.</p> <p>The PTA and the school jointly publish the Siwanoy Express—the school's weekly newsletter—which informs parents about the latest school news and events.</p>

About 24 teachers make up the major discipline area classes and team-teaching helps foster a close rapport between students and teachers.</p> <p>At PMS, students engage in a host of enriching subjects including the Renaissance, foreign language (Spanish, French, Latin or Italian), art and cross-discipline studies, such as design and engineering in science, math and technology.</p> <p>Students are exposed to multiple uses of technology when they study biotechnology and digital music (among other topics) in the school's new technology suite and have a chance to pursue their passions outside of the classroom when they choose from a hosts of extra-curricular clubs and sports to join.</p>
